Fort Worth Stockyards, Christmas Eve

Bass Hall in Fort Worth

was all decorated for the holidays.

After the final performance of the Nutcracker for the 2011 season,

my brother took us to visit the stockyards.

I was fascinated by the signs.

We did some window shopping.

Many of the buildings had old west murals painted along the sides.

Animal heads surveyed the street.

We passed a few places to have a drink.

In Pennsylvania there are signs to be alert for deer.  Not quite the same here!

Stockyard Station was a ghost town.

Christmas Eve is a beautiful time for a quiet walk.

It is sometimes surprising who you encounter.

“Y’all come back now.”

Chanukah Medley

Currently, I have all of my students working on music for sharing. The students become better musicians when they play together.  Additionally, cooperative music making builds friendships.  I make an effort to have siblings play together. It creates family memories that last a lifetime.

I teach a pair of brothers for whom it has become more and more of a challenge to select holiday music.  Christmas piano duets are easy to find. Chanukah duets are more difficult. So in defense, this year I composed a Chanukah duet for them.

Wouldn’t you know it!  The older brother ended up with a football injury and one arm in a cast for weeks. So now we are working on a piece written for four hands at one piano, with three hands.  The cast came off last week.  As a tribute to their dedication, the piece is going to shine at the recital on Friday.  Enjoy listening to their second to last lesson before the recital, and the first lesson with all four hands!

Garden Nutcracker

Where does inspiration begin?

At the Phipps Winter Flower show, it began with the Nutcracker.  Just like Mary, visitors could look through the keyhole into the delights beyond.

Fancifully decorated trees and a variety of other vignettes abounded.

Some of the rooms were formal.

Others a peak into the kingdom of sweets.

The flowers danced through the greenery.

Enjoy the garden railroad.

Take a trip past Santa’s sleigh.

Let the music pull you into a magical world.
