Not Quite the Dark Ages

Not Quite the Dark Ages Class learned lots of Mozart in six weeks.

New arrangements of Ave Verum Corpus and Canon 230 were part of the class. Learning the Eine Kleine Nachtmusik string quartet Allegro and Menuetto movements was a big commitment. German Dance K 605 No 3, Sleigh Ride made everyone smile. Ella, Becca and Kathryn doubled on the sleigh bells during the rehearsals. The group also began working on a flute quartet.

If you missed hearing them at the concert in January or the open rehearsal on the last day of the Dark Ages Class, you can enjoy a virtual concert of a few of the pieces.

Ave Verum Corpus

A string quartet arrangement of Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus is now available. In the key of D, this intermediate arrangement keeps the melody in the first violin part, with the other voices being an integral part of the work.

The cello quartet arrangement of Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus is also available. The first cello part requires treble clef reading and fluent use of thumb positions. The other parts are suitable for early intermediate or intermediate cellists.

The first performance of this arrangement was by the Not Quite the Dark Ages Class on January 26th in honor of Mozart’s birthday. A video is available from the open rehearsal in February.

High School Musicals

Spring is coming and my students are involved in high school musicals.

Look for Tessa playing trombone and Chloe on the flute in the orchestra pit at Western Beaver High School. Shrek the Musical has performances on Friday, February 28th at 7 PM, Saturday, March 1st at 2 PM and 7 PM and Sunday, March 2nd at 2PM.

Jon is playing violin in the pit orchestra for Titanic at Blackhawk High School. The ship sails on Friday, March 7th at 7:30, Saturday, March 8th at 7:30 and Sunday, March 9th at 2:30.

Look for Zane and Jenna in the cast of The Wiz at Beaver High School. Ease on down the road on April 11th and 12th.

Madison is in the cast of Aida coming to Beaver Falls High School. She will take the stage on April 11th, 12th and 13th.

Special Classes

Composing Symposium

The composing symposium is a four week class for basic composing and arranging skills. Students will discuss basic theory, range of instruments, and musical form. Final compositions will be performed by members of the class for the attendees. A CD of the compositions being performed will be made.

This class is subject to a minimum registration requirement. Saturdays 1/11, 1/18, 1/25, 2/1 from 10:00-11:00 AM $45. Register by January 2, 2014.

Not Quite the Dark Ages

CelloBrationS will focus on the chamber music from the classical period. Open to advanced violin, viola cello and bass students.

Thursdays 1/9, 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 2/6, 2/13 from 7:30-9:00 PM. $60. Register by January 2, 2014.

A Round and A Round

A Round and A Round is a chamber music experience for young musicians. Only available during point contest, the class is open to string students who can read notes in the D Major scale.

This class is subject to a minimum registration requirement. Saturdays 1/11, 1/18, 1/25, 2/1 from 9:00-10:00 AM $40. Register by January 2, 2014.

Peter at the Piano

Explore the themes from Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf. Pianists should be able to play a C Major and G Major Scale.

This class is subject to a minimum registration requirement. Saturdays 1/11, 1/18, 1/25, 2/1 from 2:00-3:00 PM $40. Register by January 2, 2014.

Wondrous Night
