Racoon Park and Moon Park

We started our day at Moon Park. In addition to airplanes, I was looking for signs of spring.

We did see a few planes, but not all that many near the playgrounds. So we went to the pond.

We sat and watched the ducks. Suddenly there was movement at the edge of the pond.

The deer decided we were not a threat as he stayed for some time before moving on.

After Moon Park, we drove to Racoon Creek State Park. We bypassed the wildflower reserve and ended up at the beach.

The birds were having a good time.

The birds weren’t the only activity in the air. We saw more planes than we did at Moon Park.

String Demos

Last week I did a demonstration of the string family for the Montessori School in Beaver.  The students heard the violin, viola and the cello. One of the students was so inspired, he made a drawing for me.  It is always fun to play for such an interested and curious audience.

Canon 230

Mozart’s Canon 230 has been arranged for two string instruments. This arrangement can be played with any combination of violinists, violists or cellists. The first performance was by the Not Quite the Dark Ages class at Mozart’s Birthday party.  The sheet music is now available.

Not Quite the Dark Ages

Not Quite the Dark Ages Class learned lots of Mozart in six weeks.

New arrangements of Ave Verum Corpus  and Canon 230 were part of the class. Learning the Eine Kleine Nachtmusik string quartet Allegro and  Menuetto movements was a big commitment. German Dance K 605 No 3, Sleigh Ride made everyone smile. Ella, Becca and Kathryn doubled on the sleigh bells during the rehearsals.  The group also began working on a flute quartet.

If you missed hearing them at the concert in January or the open rehearsal on the last day of the Dark Ages Class, you can enjoy a virtual concert of a few of the pieces.

Ave Verum Corpus

A string quartet arrangement of Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus is now available. In the key of D, this intermediate arrangement  keeps the melody in the first violin part, with the other voices being an integral part of the work.

The cello quartet arrangement of Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus is also available. The first cello part requires treble clef reading and fluent use of thumb positions. The other parts are suitable for early intermediate or intermediate cellists.

The first performance of this arrangement was by the Not Quite the Dark Ages Class on January 26th in honor of Mozart’s birthday. A video is available from the open rehearsal in February.
