Seeing Intervals, Seconds, Fourths, Sixths

Seconds, fourths and sixths are all intervals that have one note on a line and one on a space. Seconds have one note on a line and the next on the adjacent space. To think about it the other way, a second could begin on a space, then the other note would be a line. Fourths have one note on a space and one note on a line. There is a line and a space in between the notes. Sixths have one note on a space and one on a line with two lines and two spaces in between the notes.

Print the Second, Fourth or Sixth worksheet.

How do I improve my musicianship?

How do I improve my musicianship?

The fastest way to improve as a musician is to play with other people. Other musicians force you to listen to how you fit into a bigger picture.  Immediately you become more aware of pitch and rhythm. Matching the correct style becomes a concern. Learning how to work with others is a valuable life skill. It doesn’t matter if you are the best player, the worst player or somewhere in between. Learning to play with others helps you to develop. It takes time to learn to lead and follow and give cues to people around you.

An easy place to start? Play duets with a friend.

There are always things to learn being in a group. Playing duets with someone is a good way to start the experience.
